STGCC 2015: What to expect

3rd Wave annouced!



"STGCC transforms to an Akihabara wonderland with the annual STGCC DJ Night! Party to 
 Anisong tunes, EDM tracks & Chiptunes mixes with Yuyoyuppe DJ'TEKINA//SOMETHING & 
 Hige Driver! 

 On the toy axis, we have the mastermind of anatomical toys Jason Freeny & creator of the 
 iconic "Skullhead" character, Huck Gee. Join them, alongside Simone Legno, as they give a 360 
 degree view of their toy making journey at the STGCC stage sessions.

 Next up, we have our first women-only comics panel with Agnes Garbowska, popular illustrator 
 for My Little Pony, & pop surrealism artist Camilla d'Ericco. Hear them share on breaking 

 barriers in the comics industry & their road to success!"

The 2nd wave of pop culture personalities have been annouced,Special SG50 STGCC x tokidoki Unicorno in limited run!


"The Singapore Toy, Game and Comic Convention (STGCC) announces more pop culture personalities for this year’s show! Jim Cheung, co-creator of Young Avengers, and Stella Chuu the Anime Princess of Burlesque, will be making their first appearance in Singapore at the Sands Expo and Convention Center on the 12th and 13th of September"

Yesterday when i pop open my Gmail inbox, a much awaited email greeted me and this is what it reads :


"Look out pop culture fans,  the annual Singapore Toy, Game and Comic Convention (STGCC) is returning for another epic and spectacular show! The Sands Expo and Convention Center will be transformed into a pop culture haven for the 8th edition of STGCC, taking flight on 12-13 September 2015."




STGCC is back for its 8th year from the 12th-13th September at The Sands Expo and Convention Center. Let's See what's install for us:

"Jim Cheung, the brilliant penciler whose exclusive engagement with Marvel Comics has spawned
Young Avengers, will come to Singapore for the first time to attend the show. Currently working on Secret Wars and Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., he has also penciled for Marvel series Axis and Avengers: The Children’s Crusade. Outside of Marvel, Jim has
amassed an extensive portfolio of illustration projects that range from co-creating Scion for CrossGen Comics to penciling for Kill Bill (The Village Voice), and has worked with The New York Times, ESPN, Mattel and Dorling Kindersley (DK Books)."





"Recently commissioned to illustrate a cover for the highlyanticipated Batman V Superman movie, illustrator and conceptual designer Adi Granov will be back for his second appearance at STGCC. His work on Iron Man: Extremis spurred the formation of the Marvel movie universe and paved the way for his role as a conceptual designer and illustrator on the Iron Man and Avengers films. Star Wars, Darth Vader and Princess Leia comics are just a few of his other notable illustrations. His work can also be seen on the special edition CD release of Opiate by multi-platinum American rock band Tool"

"Joining the list of explosive guests from the West is Stella Chuu, dubbed Anime
Princess of Burlesque for marrying cosplay and burlesque in her one-of-a-kind acts.
She will be making her first appearance in Asia at STGCC. Her humorous and risqué
performances in themes ranging from Pinkie Pie to Jayne Cobb from Firefly, as
well as her trademark TRON routine, are her calling card to fame and saw her touring
around the Americas. She is also recognisable for cosplaying Ivy Valentine
from Soul Calibur, Supergirl Kai and Devil Momura Akemi, all hinting at what she may bring to the table at her maiden appearance in Asia."

"From the East, the doll-eyed wonder with sensual curves will come in the form of cosplayer Saku. Hailing from Japan and making her debut appearance in Singapore, she has brought to life the characters Ryuko and Satsuki of Kill la Kill, and Juliet Starling. Apart from female characters from animations, games and fantasy-themed titles including Vocaloid, the charismatic cosplayer also cosplays male characters"

"One of Japan’s most well-kept secrets is Kuryu, who will be in Singapore for the first time with fellow cosplay personality Nakoto. The duo often pair up and are expected to enthrall fans at STGCC with a showcase of their artfulness and chemistry as demonstrated through their partnership as characters like Haruka Nanase and Tachibana Makoto of popular anime Free! Other famous anime brought to life through their cosplay are Diamond no Ace, Tiger & Bunny and Gintama."

"In addition to savouring Adam Hughes’ unique “realist” style, fans will also experience a seamless
spectrum of emotions as Camilla d'Errico brings to STGCC her distinctive form of art, engaging
both manga and western styles with surrealist elements. Her famous works include the
Helmetgirls, with Dark Horse Comics, Tony Tony Lollipop for Disney’s Stitch Experiment 626 and
her self-published graphic novel, Tanpopo. "  

"Six of Camilla’s one-of-a-kind Artist Proof Kuro Vinyl Toys will make their first public appearance at STGCC. The numbered pieces of these designer vinyl toys weresold out completely in a limited productionrun. Camilla has also confirmed a special print release of 25 pieces of Tree of Life, which she will hand-embellish with gold paint at STGCC and offer for sale. "

"Joining the line-up of distinguished guests this year will be one of the most high-profile and wellknown
character designers and manga artists from Japan, Sadamoto Yoshiyuki. The founding
member of the Gainax anime studio, which is famous for productions such as Gunbuster and
Nadia: The Secret of Blue Water, Sadamoto is also known for his work on the popular Japanese
animated television series - Neon Genesis Evangelion and the Japanese hit movie – The Girl Who Leapt Through Time"

          STGCC Championships of Cosplay

          "STGCC is also stoked to present the inaugural Championships of Cosplay this year! Raising the standards of cosplay in Singapore, watch as the region’s top cosplayers and budding enthusiasts battle it out to represent STGCC at the 2016 C2E2 Crown Championships of Cosplay in Chicago, where they will compete for international glory among the best cosplayers in the world! To mark Hasbro’s first participation and celebration of cosplay with STGCC, Hasbro will be sponsoring close to SGD 2,000 worth of Magic: The Gathering merchandise, which includes the latest Magic Origins and Battle for Zendikar products for the top three winners. The champion will be rewarded with a grand prize of 1 x return economy class air ticket to Chicago and SGD 1,000 in cash, sponsored by XM Studios."

          The first collaboration to be announced is the limited edition STGCC x tokidoki Unicorno, designed specially to commemorate SG50, by tokidoki co-founder and Creative Director, Simone
          Legno, as he returns to STGCC this year bringing with him his ever-popular brand of adorable, Japaneseinspired characters.

          “I wanted to create the SG50 colourful Unicorno to compliment the beautiful creative mix of diverse cultures I’ve experienced in Singapore,” says Legno. Priced at
          $30 each, they will have a limited run of 1,000 pieces. Details of when and how fans can purchase this exclusive collectible will be released at a later date. Anyone holding an STGCC VIP Package will have one included in their gift package.

          Ms Lin Koh, Assistant Project Director, Pop Culture Cluster, Reed Exhibitions, heralded this homage to Singapore, saying, “Singapore has been featured prominently in Simone Legno’s work, in his take of local icons such as the Merlion.  ans in Singapore will love his rendition, representing the international pop culture community celebrating with Singapore.
